Theatrical Stage Combat Classes

With great excitement Rapier Wit announces the first of many classes in our new space! After a move and renovation we are ready to play once again. Please feel to come by and check out the new Rapier Wit. As always our classes are open to all.

Open Technique Nights

These ongoing Monday evening workshops are open to everyone. Each night is a complete class. You are welcome to come as often as you like. Material covered is varied and tailored to the desires of those in attendance. Classes are taught by a verity of instructors so a wide range of styles will be experienced.

Starts Monday June 9th

Evenings run from 7:00-10:00

$10 for FDC members
$15 for non members

Primary Instructor Daniel Levinson

Some of our instructors and apprentices are: Todd Campbell is a certified fight director. Simon Fon is a master of the martial arts and director with FDC. Kevin Robinson is an apprentice of Daniel Levinson and other directors working with Rapier Wit.

Open Martial Arts Classes

Come out and participate in this exciting new class in Rapier Wit’s positive, supportive, and stimulating environment. These open martial arts classes will be based in Moh Kempo, and will incorporate Shaolin Kenpo, Arnis de Mano, Kung Fu, Police and Military combat skills. Students will learn both armed and unarmed techniques.

Starts Sunday August 3rd
3:30 - 6:00

Primary Instructor Erik Buchanan

Erik Buchanan is a professional actor and martial arts fight choreographer. He trained in martial arts at the Wilkinson Kenpo School in Regina, and holds Black Belts in Moh Kempo and Shaolin Kenpo, as well as a Brown Belt in Arnis de Mano. While at the Wilkinson School, Erik had the opportunity to train with the self-defence instructors for the RCMP and the Saskatchewan Police College.

All evening classes run 7:00 - 10:00 pm Day classes from 1-4 pm

Classes run for 5 weeks and are $350 per class

*A $100 non-refundable deposit is needed to hold a space

PAL (formerly FAC) Firearm Course

This is a ‘must’ course for actors, directors, and stage managers. It is the only one of its kind in the city. For liability and safety reasons, all theatre companies should have a licensed PAL holder on staff if firearms are going to be used in a production.

Rapier Wit’s Possession And Acquisition License Course will give participants the opportunity to earn their firearm licenses while training in safe and effective performance techniques for stage and film.

Class dates are:

Saturday July 26, 2003   9 AM – 7 PM
Sunday July 27, 2003   9 PM – 5 PM
Saturday August 9, 2003   9 AM – 7 PM
Sunday August 10, 2003   10 AM – 4 PM

$375* tuition covers:
Non-restricted firearm textbook, training and testing
Restricted firearm textbooks, training and testing
Stage combat-specific topics: safety, aesthetics, choices in blank ammunition, experience firing blank firearms

Space is limited. A $100 non-refundable deposit is needed to hold a space.

*Does not include GST

*There is an additional $80 that must be paid directly to the Canadian Government for the PAL. Instructions for paying this fee will be given during the course.
